I'll describe myself, since I don't have a current pic. I've dark brown hair that's cut very short with a little gray, hazel eyes, wear glasses, and am about 5'5" and am overweight but not obese. People would say I'm shy and quiet, but that's because I don't talk very much. I have a speech disability that makes my speech sound strange. Also, I've a social phobia. But I like to write (as in blogging). And I'm highly sensitive. I'm bipolar--while about 80% of the time I'm down, fatigued and achy, once in a while I'm "up" (not wild as in manic, but enough to not feel the way I normally do.) And there's some anxiety mixed in there. I was diagnosed as AD/HD as a child, back in the Dark Ages of the 60's when that was called a "Learning disability." Which can be confused with bipolar--or you could have both. For many years due to lack of insurance I was trying to deal with this on my own, and by reading self-help books, but self-help books only help healthy people who have little problems--not people like me who are unwell. So that didn't work, and my bipolar kept getting worse. And causing me problems at my previous job and elsewhere. Then, sick of battling this on my own, I finally found a neighborhood clinic with a wonderful doctor who prescribed me a couple of meds and told me there's free counseling at his clinic. I know being treated is going to take patience, because the meds take time to work, and sometimes you need to keep trying different combinations, but thank God I'm finally on the road to recovery!

Reading, movies, documentaries like those on the National Geographic, History, Discovery, and Travel channels, music, New Orleans, Louisiana, Illinois, the city I live in (about 2 1/2 hours from Chicago), walking around my neighborhood (lots of trees and beautiful older homes), animals, especially cats, dogs, and wild animals such as tigers, other big cats, wolves, polar bears, pandas, raccoons, etc., penguins, pelicans, eating at Popeye's and all-you-can eat buffets when my appetite's good, keeping up with current events, going to the library because that's the only place I can get online, Daily Kos, Docudharma, Daily Kingfish, several other blog/websites, people who are kind, open-minded, generous, understanding, and friendly. This site, especially the way people have been so nice. Photobucket, now that I've learned how to use it. Relaxing over and being lost in a good book. The idea of parallel universes.

Racism. Sexism. Classism. People who don't care about others who are hurting. People who aren't open, sharing, supportive, or understanding. People who lie and/or break promises. Insensitive people. Meanspirited people. Snobs. People who care only about how you look or how much money you have. Dieting. Disgusting ads that exploit women by showing only parts of their bodies. Having trouble doing stuff on the computer. Photobucket. Extremely Annoying celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, and the late but not-great Anna Nicole Smith. Sensationalized crimes (unless I find them interesting.) News stories about crap such as stories about Extremely Annoying celebrities, overpaid, overpublicized jocks, and missing blond stories. Violence. Westerns and war movies. My Tracfone that doesn't ring audibly so I have to go into voice mail to get messages and sometimes can't hear people I'm talking to on. Holidays like Presidents Day when the library (where I have to go online) is closed--but almost everybody else is open. Not having bus service on Sundays so I can't go where I want to go. Being depressed, especially the tired and achy part. And losing my appetite. People who think one can snap out of a depressed mood by an act of will as quickly as if by flicking a switch. Ads for meds that list so many scary side-effects they sound worse than the condition they're supposed to treat. Being mistaken for a guy (except maybe for situations where due to sexism it may be advantageous to be taken for a guy.) Stormy weather like tornadoes and hurricanes. Photobucket

Rock (especially classic and soft from the late 60's, 70's, 80's, and early 90's), r&b, disco/dance, the blues, jazz, Cajun, zydeco and other New Orleans and Louisiana music, salsa, Mexican, and other Latin, and chill-out/New Age. I've found that when I'm "up" I usually like faster, more upbeat music such as dance, salsa, and New Orleans music, and when I'm "down" I often prefer quieter stuff such as soft rock, chill-out/New Age, and other slower, softer music. But paradoxically I'll also listen to more upbeat music like dance when I'm "down" because it temporarily energizes me. Artists/groups I enjoy include, but are not limited to, Dr. John, Aaron Neville, the Bee Gees, Moody Blues, U2, Elton John, Chicago, Santana, Madonna, Jody Watley, Expose, John Lennon and other ex-Beatles.

Various, depending on my mood. Lately I've been reading science fiction and fantasies. At other times I like light, funny stories and mysteries with eccentric characters, suspense, horror, any good stories set in Louisiana or elsewhere in the South or Illinois or elsewhere in the Midwest, current events, some history, travel, psychology (especially on depression and bipolar) more....(It's easier to say what kinds of books I don't like, than what I like.) Various kinds, depending on my mood. Disney and other animated, comedies, "chick-flicks," suspense/thriller, horror, science-fiction, fururistic, action, fantasy, anything filmed in New Orleans, elsewhere in Louisiana or other Southern states, Chicago, or elsewhere in Illinois.
